Our Other Areas Of Practice
At Van Blois Law, our lawyers have devoted our professional lives to fighting for people who have been harmed by a business, government agency or individual. Most of these cases involve catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases. There are, however, other types of cases where we apply our vast experience and extensive resources. We have had a record of success in the following types of claims.
- Child abuse, including abuse by members of the clergy : As the most vulnerable among us, children must be protected. When trusted people such as members of the clergy, teachers or other professionals violate that trust, they and the institutions that support these individuals must be held accountable.
- Fraud and bad faith claims : When businesses fail to observe the terms of a contract, they may be guilty of acting in bad faith. Our law firm has a demonstrated record of success at trial in business fraud litigation.
- Undue influence : A will or trust should accurately reflect a person’s intentions. Unfortunately, relatives or caretakers may take advantage of a person’s diminished capacity and rewrite a will or trust to gain a larger inheritance. In these cases, we join forces with probate lawyers to create strong cases for our clients.
- Consumer class claims: Claims are started by one or a few individuals. We have recovered millions of dollars for consumers in class action cases.
Some of our firm’s largest verdicts and settlements have come from these types of cases. For instance, we recovered a settlement of more than $17 million on behalf of a child who was molested by a priest. We recovered a judgment of more than $16 million at trial in a case involving fraud by a contractor. While every case is different, and past results do not influence future performance, we believe these results stand as evidence of our abilities in and out of court.
